The Real Shortcut to Online Success

Ok..

Today’s blog post comes from a conversation I just had..

“C’mon Geoff, there’s ALWAYS a shortcut.”

You can play around with all the fancy software and try to exploit all the “secret” marketing loopholes available..

..but the people that are making the real money day after day are the ones that know how to SELL.

The internet marketing world is full of people that don’t know anything about marketing.

The “make money online” world is full of people that don’t make any money online.

The network marketing world is full of people that don’t know how to network and don’t know enough about marketing.

Funny how that is..

The skills you need to be good at, are IN THE NAME of the industry you’re in.

So.. why not focus on what you need to be good at?

Makes sense, doesn’t it?

Success in marketing is in the fundamentals.

Understand: It is SELLING.

Don’t kid yourself and think that it’s not.

“But I’m not a sales-y type of person…”

.. which means what?

All we do is provide solutions for people that have problems that they want to fix.

And THAT is what sales is all about.

1. Find a group of people that have an urgent, specific, problem.
2. Provide them with a specific solution to their problem.

aaannnddd.. Money.

So now what?

I STRONGLY urge you to stay away from the money games and tickery that is out there that only leaves people broke (and possibly you as well).

I want you to succeed.

And the way to succeed in online marketing is to focus on learning marketing. Real marketing.

And that IS the shortcut, folks.

Stay focused.

Stay the course.

Stay on track.

Internet Marketing is Not an Assembly Line Job

This is kind of a rant, but more like a dose of reality.

On an almost daily basis, I encounter people that are so confident in how they’re marketing, they refuse to even consider learning anything new or different..

EVEN THOUGH they aren’t making any money doing what they’re doing.

Most of these people are, unfortunately, just re-enforcing the fact that there’s SO much bad training out there.. they’re probably just parroting what they’ve been told by other unsuccessful people.

So here’s what they’ve been told to do to make money online…

  1. Buy leads, import them into an email blaster. Send emails to them and then get paid.
  2. Buy traffic (the cheaper the better). Send that traffic to your company affiliate link and then get paid.
  3. Do nothing and hope someone else will do everything for you… oh, and then get paid.

… that’s how you do it, right?

No. Not right.

This is wrong, unless you’re still living in the ’90’s.

Internet marketing is not an assembly line job. It’s a business.

What you need to be doing here is building a sales funnel that is branded to you (not your company). The desired ongoing result is to get you started in building your own list, based on who you are and how you can help people get what they want. To build a targeted audience that you’ll be able to more successfully promote your opportunity to.

Here’s how it works.

You build a squeeze page (or hire someone to build it for you), which entices people to opt in to your list in order to learn what it is you’re going to teach them, or information you’re going to provide to them.

Once they opt in they get access to your training/info, which builds authority in you, and trust in them (this is called your ‘lead magnet’).

Your email followups will re-enforce that trust and, through that trust, you’ll be able to successfully recommend products / opportunities to them on an ongoing basis.

Your list is your biggest asset as it will always follow you around as long as you control it. So.. if for some reason you change companies or sell different products, you will still have your list that you can build off of, as opposed to starting from scratch each time (which is what most people do).

Make sense?

You need to have a process where you can welcome new people in through the front door, so to speak.

You help them get what they want, they learn to trust your opinions and recommendations, and because they trust you, your simple recommendations will turn into money for you no matter what it is you’re promoting.

That. Is. How. You. Do. It.

If you don’t believe me, I don’t really care, not my problem, and you can keep doing things the hard way.

However if you’re willing to invest in your business and get on the right track the FIRST time, and jump WAY ahead of 90% of everyone in your industry..

How to be Successful Now

Reality Check.

Okay, all the “successful” folk in this industry seem to have no problem telling you how “easy” it is to make money online.

And I guess it’s easy to claim that if you’ve been around a long time and can say that you have no problem generating an income on the internet..

.. right?

Well, it’s not easy.

It really isn’t.

A LOT of learning, and a lot of hard work has to be done before you can see any significant financial return.

I’ve had MANY people contact me about how to get it done the “easy” way, or how to sidestep all the effort and learning that goes along with running a business.

So, here’s the “secret”.

You really only have 2 options when it comes to building a money making business online.

  1. Learn how to do it all yourself, and then put it into action.
  2. Get someone else to do it for you (or at least get you started).

If you choose option #1, it will take you forever. Okay maybe not forever, but it will sure feel like it after a few years of struggling and frustration, and trying to learn the best way of doing things that (hopefully) work for what you’re selling.

Or option #2.. Hire someone to get you started and instantly put you YEARS ahead of all the other struggling wanna-be entrepreneurs already out there.

What it comes down to is:

  1. Be successful later, much later (probably years)..
  2. Be successful NOW, and MORE successful later. 

I don’t know about you, but the #2 option sure makes more sense.

Let’s think about this for a minute.

We all know that in order to make money, you have to invest in your own business.. your own knowledge, and yourself.

If you try to do it all yourself, it could take you at least a year to really see any sort of solid income with what you’re selling. That’s a LOT of hours you’ll have to put in just to “learn the ropes”.

I’m not sure what you value your time at, but when it’s all said and done, you’ve probably put in thousands of dollars, even tens of thousands of dollars, in time and money without having any real direction as to where you’re supposed to be going..

Now consider all that time and money (most of it wasted), and invest that amount into hiring someone that knows how to do what you want to do. Hire that person to teach you the RIGHT way the FIRST time.

What happens then..?

Well, within a very short time, you will be so far ahead of where you were before, you’ll be kicking yourself for even CONSIDERING going at it all alone – plus you’ll be saving all that wasted time and money you were going to spend just in your first year of failing over and over again.

It DOES make sense, doesn’t it. Yeah it does.

Think about how your friends and family will look at what you’re doing.

They’ll either say:

“Ok.. when are you going to start making money? How much more is it going to take of you screwing aroung and trying this and that with no success in site..??”

Or..

“How did you start making money so quickly?? How did you know what to do? How can I do what you’re doing??”

So what are you going to do?

Are you going to DECIDE to be successful? It’s not up to me, it’s up to YOU.

Personally, I would love to see you be successful. I really would.

But I can’t help you if you don’t DECIDE to do so.

I CAN help you, and I can help you to quickly and efficiently rise above the levels of mediocrity, and up to a level that you will be proud to be on.

You can’t overdose on this painkiller

Ouch.

Yesterday I had a painful headache.

A pretty nasty one.

So.. like millions of other people, I went out and bought some pills.

I went home and I took a couple of those pills.. and the pain went away.

Simple enough.

Pain? Killed.

Problem? Solved.

I had pain, I bought a product, my pain went away.

Welcome to the world of “how to sell stuff”.

Welcome to the world of “how to sell as much stuff as you want, whenever you want”.

You see, when you sell a product, ANY product, your focus is to kill a pain that someone is having.

Someone has pain, your product kills that pain.

This is true of ANY product.

Of course you can equate the “pain” to a want or a need. Same deal. Same response.

If someone’s pain is their credit card debt, your product could kill that pain if you could show them how to get out of it.

If someone’s pain is they can’t afford to take the kids on vacation this year, your product could show them how to earn the money to do that, or how to do it less expensively.

It’s all based on pain.

Someone WANTS a new car? Their pain is that they don’t have the car they want. Show them how to get what will kill their pain, and you make money.

I just read that painkiller medication will reach over $68Billion dollars in revenue this year. That’s a lot of relieved headaches.

If you think of your own products this way, you will help more people, and you will make a LOT more money.

Kill the pain.

How To Hit Obnoxious Home Runs

 

Hey.

Quick story..

I received a Skype call out of the blue the other day from one of my affiliates. She kind of caught me off guard since I wasn’t expecting a call, but I happened to have my Skype open at the time.. so we had a little chat..

Here’s the scenario..

This marketer has been in the ‘business’ for 2 years, hasn’t had much success, has ‘tried everything under the sun’, has never made any significant amount of money, and is frustrated (and overwhelmed) with it all. Basically she was ready to quit.

I don’t think she really ‘wanted’ to quit, but she was at that point.

Ever been there?

So after lots of back and forth, with me giving her plenty of advice regarding goal setting, and just generally how she could be doing her marketing more effectively, I managed to talk her down off the edge of the building.

But after all was said and done, she still had that one burning question that plagues so many of us early on in our marketing careers..

“Ok, Geoff, what’s the fastest and easiest way to make money online?”

I suppose it’s a pretty fair question, as it’s something that gets asked on a daily basis by those who are new to the industry, or by those who are struggling to make any sort of income on the internet.

How do I DO it?

What do I DO in order to reach my goals?

.. and how do I accomplish this as quickly as possible?

Ok, here’s what I see happening on a daily basis in our marketing world..

Thousands (probably millions) of people all at once trying their best to reinvent the wheel.

All these people looking for that great idea, or ‘secret’ strategy that will take their business to the ‘next level’.
… and.. guess what? none of them are making any money.

It’s unfortunate, really.

Now, I’m not going to go ahead and say that marketing is ‘easy’, or shouldn’t take much effort, because you still have to master certain aspects of marketing in order to get ahead of the crowd (and it’s a pretty big crowd).

I will say that there are thousands of ways to make money online, and there is no “best” way to do it. There are best practices and it all kind of works the same (ie. it’s all sales) and there are just as many thousands of ways to go about it..

Ok.. back to my story..

So, what did I tell my Skype caller?

I told her exactly what I did that was one of the (many) things that turned my marketing business around back when I was first starting.

This was the absolute most important thing that I did in my business that made the biggest difference for me.

I copied what other successful people were doing, on an abolutely OBNOXIOUS level.

Let me explain..

Back when I was making a few dollars (literally) in marketing, of course I wanted to make more money.

But I didn’t know HOW.

I mean, I’m a pretty smart dude, so why am I seeing all these other people making a lot more money than me.

Why am I not there.. yet?

So one day I just said, “Screw this, instead of trying to do things my way (which apparently isn’t working), I’m going to find someone that has what I want. Then I’m going to copy them and do exactly what they’re doing to get what they want.. and if I copy them, I should get the same thing, right?”

That made sense to me.

Total sense.

So..

I found 2 or 3 people that were making the kind of money that I thought was realistic for me at the time..

Then?

Then I watched them.

Every single day.

I watched what they were doing.

I watched how they communicated.

I watched what their “process” was.

I asked them questions.

and I LEARNED.

A lot.

Not only that, I started making the kind of money they were making.

It wasn’t a lot of money, mind you, but it was what I set my sights on.

It was fun, and best of all, it was predictable.

It was only a few hundred bucks but it was good.

Remember I said I did this on an “obnoxious” level. Meaning I focused directly on WHAT they were doing, not what I “thought” I SHOULD be doing.

Get that?

It’s like when you’re learning how to swing a baseball bat. You don’t just do it your way and hope you hit a homerun.

You learn how the homerun hitters do it. You watch them, you learn, you practice. THEN you hit homeruns.

Understand?

.. and THAT IS the easiest, and fastest, way to success in internet marketing.

So here are the steps:

  1. Decide what you want.
  2. Find someone that already has what you want.
  3. Learn what they did to get what they have.
  4. Do what they do to get what you want.
  5. Repeat.
