Which comes first: Success or Confidence?

Hello NPN’ers,

I made this youtube video over 2 years ago, but it still brings up a valid discussion. Are you “being real” in your advertising or are you just passing on the same old b.s. story about making money…?

Do you need to have success in order to become more confident.. or do you need confidence in order to become more successful?

Do you need to put false advertising out there about yourself as being already successful.. so you can become successful in the future? .. Or can you just promote yourself as you are now with confidence in order to earn people’s trust?

Regardless, it’s something to think about when considering how others perceive you.

Please watch and comment/share, let me know what you think:

Thanks,

Have a great day!
– Geoff.

  1. Confidence comes first. I don’t think success truly comes until you have belief and confidence in yourself to put yourself out there in front of people and risk failure (or gain experience). I think people see through those that “fake it until they make it.”

  2. This is an interesting question, however I actually combine a bit of both. I am confident in that the strategies I share will work, and as I do, I gain success.

I don’t claim anything I do not believe in, however it is also proven that if you are in the right mindset you can achieve what you want if you set your goal in present tense.

  3. I agree, Confidence comes first. Success comes naturally when you have confidence. Confidence breeds confidence and success to me is quality of life and when it is all said and done….when it comes down to it….That is what we are all after and anything else is a plus.

  4. I’ve had success more than a few times in my life. Sometimes I ‘fell into’ the right situation and became successful, without needing to be confident.

Other times I worked very hard at certain goals I wanted to achieve, but did not realize success until I was confident in myself & those endeavors.

However, I’ve also seen how to lose my success I worked hard to attain. Why I lost those things was because I lost confidence in them or what I was doing in life at that time.

Without a doubt, confidence is necessary for attaining and retaining success.

  5. Good video, Geoff. Thanks for sharing with us. It is so much easier to market from a position of confidence. Confidence in ourselves and in our product/service. People can sense when we are faking it.

  6. I have been involved in online marketing for over 7 years, and have owned several brick and mortar businesses. I can say from personal experience, that your belief and confidence in yourself will be portrayed in your marketing efforts.

If you truly do not believe you can make money online, you wont, I do not care what you do, your belief in your self and in what you are doing will be directly related to the actions you take in growing your business. You will either be fully involved or you wont…hence you will either have success or failure. Your actions will never get a head of your belief.

We tend to ask the wrong questions, when are belief and confidence is not where it should be……..example

“How much is this going to cost me” instead of “How much is this going to make me?”

What we come up with are the wrong answers, so instead of acting upon the right answer we act upon the wrong answer….and do not invest in our business or our self.

Learning to act on faith is always the starting point and as we learn and grow our belief and confidence grow as well, this is where we start asking the right questions as we start to have little successes that build upon one another..

  7. I agree with Glen, above (one of my good buddies.)

    Confidence comes first before success.

Of course, to become confident, you need to learn how to market to be successful. Learning is one of the stones on the path to confidence which is a stone on the path to success.

One of my favorite sayings is that the path to success is paved with the stones of failure. Do not be afraid to step on those (i.e. fail) because that is the path to success… in life… in business… in personal development… etc.

I am experiencing success because of my confidence.

  9. Great video Geoff. It takes conviction to do the right thing.A favorite quote of mine is: “Reputation is what you need to get a job; character is what you need to keep it. ”

I totally agree with what you are saying. The other day while surfing one ad caught my eye. I stopped to read it. The ad was about this person who was retired and enjoying his life. Out of curiosity I clicked on it and to make a long story short it was a young woman’s referral link to a product by this elderly retired gentleman. It totally put me off and I thought to myself, “This is why folks thing affiliate and internet marketing are scams.”

I think people need to stop and think about what they are doing and where they are going. It brings to mind another quote:
People don’t plan to fail, they just fail to plan. If you have a plan then you will have more confidence.

Well that is my two cents on all of tihs.

    • Thanks for the comments. I think affiliate marketing is a bit different, where as long as you can send good traffic you can make money.

I find reputation etc. is more highly regarded in mlm and networking because you ARE the product.

  10. By the question you have asked you have gained my respect and trust. We need more people like you.

You have hit on a problem I have with some of these programs. I am asked to write a blog about the program I am selling before I really know anything about it. If the instructions are clear and easy to understand, that I can say, but to say the program is working for me, I cannot said it does. All I can say is that the program worked for the owner as I have seen the proof. I have dropped out of a program rather than be untruthful. I may never make a dime but I can sleep at nights.

    • Well.. sleep is important isn’t it. The approach should be to blog about the value that YOU can bring to the table, then you can recommend any program you like without worrying about being untruthful.

  11. Confidence fin myself, I have.
Because of that I can laugh at all of my stupid goofs and start over again until I get things right.
You ‘ll never know how much I have learned from from all those goofs.
I’m getting smarter every day! LOL

  12. You sure said a mouth full in this one and so right – I have seen so many people out proclaiming to be making a great living and when you start checking around and googling them you find out quick that is all a bunch of bs. I have always believed in being up front with people – and even tell them sometimes what they don’t like hearing and yea they get mad and I don’t hear from them for awhile BUT you know once it settles in they contact me again. So I like dealing with other like-minded individuals and you can usually tell pretty quick if you try to build a relationship with who you meet vs sending them a link all the time. Thanks for the video – very good job and going to share it with my list 🙂

  13. My opinion is….. confidence comes first !
Once you have gained confidence success is achieved automatically.Yet to gain self confidence one requires a deep knowledge, self-esteem & an burning ego to attain milestones.
Those who have confidence in themselves always strive to attain success out of failures.

  14. I agree, you need confidence with a passion and desire for what you believe in. Letting your passion for what you do with go a big distance in front of poeple. It will reflect off of you the confidence and passion to those you meet in contact. with the proper mindset as of this , people will see a true person therefore branding yourself.

  15. Hello Geoff,

As for the question you brought up, I think self confidence is crucial to have success.
As told before learning, failing and being Success builds your confidence, than all together make you a really successful human being.

But I want to relate what is being said about all these “Millionaire” who claims they made Millions, but still charging money for their E-books or courses.
I sensed it’s very close to be fraud or little lie, cause of that, I made a complete free course who teaches the basic how to make money on line.
Of course I put NPN affiliate link inside and I’m teaching about it, how to use and how to make money with it.

To Conclusion, Be honest, give valuable information, make money.

    That’s the way things works.

  16. Thanks Geoff for sharing – a great video from you.

Confidence is probably the foundation for success – and I reckon that real confidence is not even dependent on success. It’s more how you perceive yourself, how you know yourself on the inside – your strengths and your limitations.

Funny enough, I could perceive 101 possibilities to make money easily with the BS recipe, but then at the same time I know I will have to live with my face for the rest of my life.

So I am to convince customers with what I am and do – more than with talk. It’s maybe a bit a longer and more laborious way, but in the end very rewarding – the fruit just tastes sweeter.

I can relate to Ruth’s post # 11 from above, I just went through ‘spring cleaning’. It takes time to position yourself, explore strategies and implement the suitable one, that works for you. But that’s the pain and joy of being an entrepreneur.

Geoff, your no BS approach is really the reason I am with NPN – I am very grateful for this.

  18. I never lie or stretch the truth about anything I am involved in .I’ve been lied to enough and I made a vow to myself to always be honest with people weather it made me look good or bad. If I have had success with something I tell it like it is,good or bad. Many of my friends online or otherwise have come to know this about me. To me honesty is always the best policy..No Fluff Please

  19. Real success comes from knowing. A huge problem with people online is they try to be successful without knowing what they are doing. This effects everything else they “try” and do. Unless you really know what you are talking about you will never sound believable or convince anyone of anything.

So before confidence or success must come knowledge. Without knowledge you have nothing…
